BCA DEPARTMENT REPORT

(June 2016-October 2016)

1. Orientation: Orientation for the BCA students was held on June 17, 2016 in the Bicentennial Hall from 10am onwards. Fr Wilfred followed by Sir Cedric delivered the Keynote. The Department Coordinator Mr. Jovi D’Silva then briefed the first year students of the department on the syllabus and evaluation pattern as well as the disciple and rules and regulations to be followed by them. All the faculty members of the department attended the function.

5. Open Day: The open day was conducted on 20th August 2016 for the first, second and third year BCA students. The students accompanied by their parents/ guardian had a meeting with the respective class mentors. Various issues were discussed viz. attendance, ISA marks, students conduct in the college etc. General rules were also mentioned to the parents/ guardian.

6. Student Achievements: Mr David Da Costa and Mr Sinson Kannampuza were part of Don Bosco College Football Team and emerged as Runners Up at Darshan Cup (National Level Inter College Football Championship) held at Belgaum Karnataka on 18 to 21 August 2016.

10. Guest Lectures: An interactive session on Internet of Things was organized by Department of Computer Applications in association with the award winning Goa based IT startup – Inventrom, on 30 June, 2016 in Bicentennial hall. The keynote speaker for the session was Mr. Ryan Dcosta. The main aim of the session was to demonstrate to the BCA students on Internet of Things – technology that allows you to connect to any physical devices over the Internet via a smartphone and control or monitor the device’s features from any part of the world.

11. Events Organized: The department of Computer Applications, Don Bosco College, Panjim hosted the second edition of ‘I-Tech’ on 30th August 2016, the event was aimed at promoting emerging trends in IT among the higher secondary schools in the state of Goa. The Manager of Don Bosco College Fr. Wilfred Fernandes, the Officiating Principal Mr. Cedric Silveira, the department Coordinator Mr. Jovi D’Silva, the Chief Guest Prajyot Mainkar, Director of Androcid and the Guest of Honour Ryan D’Costa, Business Development Manager, Inventrom, inaugurated the event.

In his opening address, the chief guest Prajyot Mainkar, Director Androcid, spoke about how information technology is about finding solutions to the problems and how the solutions lead to newer inventions in technology. The Guest of Honour Mr. Ryan D’costa also engaged a talk on ‘Internet of Things’.

The various competitions like Elocution, Photography, Collage Making and Treasure Hunt were organised. Out of the seven Higher Secondary schools, which participated, Mustifund Higher secondary school, Panjim were the overall winners and TB Cunha Higher Secondary School, Panjim were the runner up. The winners received trophies and certificates.
