Rural Camp at Brahmakarmali

The department of Social Work, Don Bosco College organized a ten day residential rural camp for MSW 1st year students from 8th to 17th February 2017 at Brahmakaramali near Sattari in North Goa.

The camp aimed at instilling in the students conceptual clarity, practical knowledge of the Participatory Rural Appraisal technique, rural life from social work perspective, use of social work techniques, methods, skills, attitudes, managing, organizing and administrating the camp.

On reaching the location, after the inaugural program, students had a transect walk, in which the students and villagers took a round of the village.

They were divided in five small groups for the data collection to get to know about education, health, sanitation, water supply, housing condition etc.

Social mapping was done with active participation from the villagers. Different tools of community organization were put into practice. These included street play, social songs, mashalpheri, prabhatpheri, in different areas to gather people and create awareness on different issues like de-addiction, social welfare schemes, beti bachao beti padhao, woman empowerment, forest conservation and safe drinking water.

Talks on different topics like social welfare schemes, life stock development, forest and wild life conservation, superstitions, youth development, cooking method, mix farming etc. were organized in the evening for the students as well as villagers. Programs organized included Balmelawa, drawing competition, sweet dish making competition, yuvakmelawa and health camp.
